  1. The Face of Kavas & Greece

    By November 06, 2015

We arrived in Athens as first-time charterers in Greece, not knowing what to expect. The Kavas people were friendly and welcoming - helping with supermarket visits, conducting a professional hand-over and helping us depart a very tight mooring. On to exploring the Greek islands - delightful people and delightful weather (at least for the first week). Then some minor instrumentation problems which we reported back to Kavas by e-mail. Within a very short time of arriving at our next port (about 40 miles from their base) the Kavas people were there cheerfully sorting our issues. Then some high (F8) winds which tested our stern-to mooring skills to the limit and beyond. Our anchor chain was long and tight, but not long and tight enough to prevent us coming back onto the rocks reinforcing the harbour wall in Perdika and damaging the rudder. Calmer weather followed by some very enjoyable exploring of the Saronic Sea area. Then the horrible prospect of returning with a damaged yacht ! We should not have worried. The Kavas people were just as friendly and welcoming as before. A professional assessment of the damage was followed by an acceptable resolution of the issues of repair costs. We were left thinking that we would love to do more sailing in Greece. When we do then it will be with Kavas. Very customer focused and friendly - but, then, that seemed true of most of the shops, tavernas and businesses we came across in Greece.
